Growing Basil in grow bags

Basil is a quick and easy grower, which makes it a great plant for beginners and veteran gardeners. Growing basil from seed. Germination takes 7-10 days. Plant your basil seeds in your grow bag about 6-8 weeks before the last frost in spring. Plant your seeds 1/4 inches deep in a nutrient rich potting soil. Keep the soil moist. After the last frost date, you can move your grow bag outside.

Basil loves the heat. It thrives in temperatures about 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Growing your basil in a grow bag allows you to never risk it getting too cold - you can always relocate if needed. If you give your basil enough heat and sunlight, it will grow throughout the season.

The ideal soil for growing basil is a well drained soil with a neutral pH. Mix compost in with your soil and keep your soil moist but not soggy and add mulch around the base of your plant. Basil prefers to be watered at the base of the stems - not over the leaves. Thoroughly water your basil when the soil is dry about one inch below the surface.

Basil is prone to fungus. You can avoid any fungal issues with your basil by keeping them in a well ventilated area that is not too humid.

Harvest your basil when the plants are about 6-8 inches tall. Be sure to gently pull off the top leaves of the plant so the plant will grow nice and bushy.
