Growing Brussels Sprouts in grow bags.

Brussels sprouts are a frost tolerant vegetable so the best time to plant is mid to early spring, and mid to late summer for a fall harvest.

Why should you use a grow bag to grow your brussels sprouts? You can grow a delicious brussels sprouts harvest in a grow bag even if you have very little room to grow (patio, balcony, deck or small yard). You can also grow for a longer period using grow bags because you have more control over the environment.

How do you grow brussels sprouts in grow bags? Brussels sprouts have a fairly large root system so you will need to use a 5 gallon or larger grow bag. It is usually suggested to space them 1 to 2 feet away from each other. Drainage is very important in the type of soil you choose for brussels sprouts. You will also need to use potting soil or soil specifically for container gardening. Grow bags drain faster than other types of gardening so you will need to water frequently. Plant your brussels sprout seeds directly in the soil of your grow bag. Typically, brussels sprout seeds take about 1-2 weeks to fully germinate. It takes about 85-90 days for the seeds to develop into a fully mature plant.

Harvesting your brussels sprouts - Brussels sprouts are ready to pick when they are 1-2 inches in size. Use a sharp knife to remove the sprouts from the bottom of the plant and work your way up.
